In order to reduce the risk of industrial accidents and large-scale infrastructural damage.

The research team of Lobachevsky University headed by Prof. Dmitry Balandin, Head of the Department of Differential Equations, Mathematical and Numerical Analysis, develops the project, which aims to create technical solutions for microwave sounding for vibration control in buildings and other structures. The project is implemented within the framework of the Federal Program “Priority Research and Development in Russia”

This project aims to develop systems for active vibration control in buildings and other structures, which allow to measure deformation of the structure using microwave sounding.

Expected outcomes:

  • Mathematical model of a multistory building with embedded system of active vibration control under dynamic load;

  • Algorithm for processing and transformation of the signal from the displacement transducers in the system;

  • Recommendations on the operational control of the physical and mechanical state of the building structures conducted using the created system.

The project will result in the introduction to the market of small, inexpensive systems for active vibration control in buildings, which will use microwave sounding for real-time monitoring and control.

These reliable and miniature displacement transducers will not require expensive maintenance. Introduction of such systems will allow reducing the maintenance costs of complex structures and industrial buildings, and at the same time, reduce the risk of large-scale accidents and severe structural damage.

The project will be implemented during 2015 – 2017 jointly with the industrial partner - AFS52.
