This year’s Times Higher Education research covered universities from 50 countries, but only 41 countries representing more than a half of the globe’s population made it to the top three hundred. Among 24 Russian universities, Lobachevsky University also features in the influential listing’s BRICS & Emerging Economies Ranking. It ranks in the range 201-250 of THE BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2017 where Moscow State University holds the 3rd position. According to Phil Baty, editor of THE World University Rankings, the same 13 performance indicators were used in the 2017 rating for BRICS & Emerging Economies as in the annual global rating, THE World University Rankings.  "Universities had to demonstrate the highest effectiveness standards in relation to their work in the field of education, science and international cooperation, and only the best succeeded in reaching the top three hundred under tough competition between universities of 50 countries. I would like to congratulate Lobachevsky University for achieving such a good result and ranking among the top 300 best universities",  said Phil Baty.
