On October 9,  international students enrolled in the International Relations program at Lobachevsky University visited the Pechersky Ascension Monastery. It is the principal monastery of the Nizhni Novgorod diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. Professor Alexander Kornilov who guided this tour of the monastery compound introduced the students to the history of the monastery and the Orthodox symbolism. Students visited the 17-th century Assumption Church where they were explained about Orthodox rites. This kind of introduction to Orthodox culture helps foreign students to master their course in the history of world religions, and it also contributes to a better understanding of the Russian people, Russian history and art.
