From July 17 to July 21, the University of Glasgow hosted a training week for the management and staff of university international services within the framework of the Erasmus+ program. The group of the Lobachevsky University staff participating in the training was headed by Vice-Rector for International Affairs A. Bedny and Vice Rector for Social Issues and Employer Relations T. Bespalova. It included representatives of the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History, the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The training week program included an introduction to the international services at the University of Glasgow, as well as a wide range of issues related to studies abroad and organizing student exchange, recruiting foreign students, organizing inter-university cooperation, joint Master programs, etc.
On July 17, the members of the UNN delegation met with the Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh A. Pritsepov. They discussed the development of cooperation between the universities of Scotland and Lobachevsky University; the Consulate General of the Russian Federation confirmed its intention to render all possible support to such cooperation in the field of education and science.
It should be noted that Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod takes part together with the University of Glasgow in the IMCEERES project. IMCEERES is a unique international Master program implemented by a consortium headed by the University of Glasgow. The program is designed to meet the needs of a variety of employees in major public, commercial and voluntary institutional settings who wish to acquire a specialised knowledge of Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Eurasia. The International Masters in Central and East European, Russian and Eurasian Studies offers you the unique opportunity to study in three or four international universities, and to emerge with three Masters degrees from three separate institutions. Students spend their first semester at the University of Tartu, followed by a semester at the University of Glasgow. The first semester of year two is spent in one of the consortium's partner universities: Lobachevsky University, Jagiellonian University (Poland), KIMEP University (Kazakhstan), Corvinus University (Budapest, Hungary), National University ‘Kyiv Mohyla Academy’(Ukraine), Ilia State University (Georgia). UNN representatives exchanged views with their partners from the University of Glasgow on various aspects of project implementation and agreed to hold a regular consortium meeting at Lobachevsky University in May 2019.
On July 20, Vice-Rector for International Affairs A.Bedny and Vice Rector for Social Issues and Employer Relations T. Bespalova met with Prof. James Conroy, Vice Principal (Internationalisation). During the meeting, they discussed the implementation of the joint IMCEERES project and some new approaches to expanding cooperation between the UNN and the University of Glasgow. Also, a meeting was held with the leadership of the University of Glasgow Alumni Association during which both sides shared their experience of working with university graduates.
