Internet on Campus
All Students at UNN have the right to free internet access On-Campus. All of the University buildings have WI-FI accessibility from your portable devices be it Tablet, Mobile, Notebook or Laptop. The University also has internet access available in all of the University owned accommodation buildings in each room, at a low cost in comparison to private internet companies.
How to Access On Campus Wi-Fi
All Students Registered at the Lobachevski State University of Nizhni Novgorod have access to on Campus Internet. To receive internet you must go to the Internet Centre based in Gagarin av., 23, Building 1A in room 307 on the third floor. This service costs free of charge although you must prolong each semester, by taking the agreement to the Internet Centre.
When you register your device with the Internet Centre you must take with you
- The device upon which you want to access the internet with.
- An Internet Agreement, which can be collected in the International Students office or downloaded here. Find an example of filled-in Agreement.
- A Certificate of Study showing that you study at UNN, which can be obtained from the International Students Office.
- A valid International Passport
The WI-FI is connected to all of the study buildings in the University including the campuses at Minin Sq., Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Str., Ashkhabadskaya Str. and Lenin Av. as well as all of the buildings on the Gagarin Av. site. Usage is capped to each user at 3GB per month, after you have exceeded this download allowance your monthly allowance will finish and you will have to wait until the beginning of the next month to access the service again.
VPN Internet in the Dormitory
In every room in University Owned Accommodation there is access to high-speed internet, apart from on the 2nd floor of Dormitory Number 4. This is chargeable monthly at the various prices listed below, depending upon the service you require. All of the packages that are made available in the UNN Dormitory’s are suitable for downloading learning and social options such as Skyping family back home, watching films and downloading music. The highest speed internet available with the fairest usage in the policy is 50GB with a 30mb/sec download speed at the cost of 450rubles per month.
Internet Pricing Plans
- Unlimited 450 rubles per month (50GB: 30mb/sec) if you exceed 50GB the speed will be reduced to 1mb/sec
- Combined 350 rubles per month (30GB: 30mb/sec) if you would like to purchase an add-on every MB costs 0.03 Rubles (1GB 30.72 Rubles.)
All pricing plans are contracted to one year and billed per month. The money owed can be payable at the ATM section on Campus, by selecting the UNN Logo and entering your Login in and Password. If you feel that you need more or less internet or that you have an inadequate internet speed you may change your tariff at any point over the academic year by going to the statistics page of your account. You can check your Internet Balance from the web statistics server http://vpn.unn.ru using your login and password.
How to get VPN Internet in your dormitory
To get VPN Internet you must go to the Internet Centre in Gagarin av., 23, Building 1A in room 307 on the third floor with the following documents.
- Two copies of an Internet Contract, which can be collected in the International Students office or downloaded here. Find an example of filled-in Agreement.
- A Certificate of Study showing that you study at UNN, which can be obtained from the International Students Office.
- A valid International Passport.
Once you have brought all of the necessary documents to the Internet Centre you will receive an Ethernet Cable, login and password. To connect to the internet you will need to pay the outstanding balance you owe at the ATM Section pay to Lobachevski State University on the ground floor of Building 1. If over the course of the year your cable becomes unfit for use, you can buy a new one from the internet centre for less than 50 Rubles.
In a room there are only 2 Connection Points. If there are 3 students in your room you can either use the internet by turn or buy a Network Switch from an Electrical Store and take the receipt to the Internet Centre, the cost of which will be refunded to your account.
For security purposes we do not recommend using a WI-FI Router.
