ABOUT INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIAD OF THE RUSSIAN-AFRICAN NETWORK UNIVERSITY

In 2026, Russian-African Network University (RAFU) launches a pilot project - International Olympiad of the Russian-African Network University. Supported by the Russian Ministry of Science & Higher Education, the Olympiad aims to develop Russian-African academic cooperation, ensure technological sovereignty, and train high-qualified specialists for African countries within the master's programs offered by the Olympiad`s partner universities. The coordinator of the Olympiad is National Research Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod. 13 Russian universities of Russia (partners of the Olympiad and members of Russian-African Network University) provide access to their master programs as well as additional benefits for active participants.

The Olympiad is held remotely in Russian or English language (on the participant`s choice) as an individual contest in 4 subject areas:

  • Economics & Management;
  • International Relations & Humanities;
  • Biomedicine & Cognitive Science;
  • Computer Science, Engineering & Technologies of the Future.

The Olympiad awardees can benefit a privileged enrollment into a profiled master's program under special terms, established by the Olympiad partner universities. In 2026, the Russian Ministry of Science & Higher Education provided 20 scholarships for the winners within the quota of the Russian Government.

SCHEDULE

February 1 – March 1, 2026 – Preparatory Stage;

March 2 – March 30, 2026 – Participant Registration and Portfolio Submission;

March 2 – April 1, 2026 – Portfolio Evaluation by the Jury;

April 2, 2026 – Publication of the List of Participants Eligible for Interviews;

April 3–6, 2026 – Online Interviews with the Jury;

April 7, 2026 – Publication of the results, Announcement of awardees and winners, and Results Publication.

Who are eligible to participate?

Citizens of African countries:

  • the Bachelor`s students of the 3rd and 4th years of Russian or foreign universities;
  • the Bachelor`s graduates of Russian or foreign universities who hold a bachelor’s or specialist’s degree. 

 


What is the participation procedure

  1. First, select the area you're interested in on the Olympiad website and click the button "Participate". After completing and submitting online application form, you receive a confirmation email from the Olympiad email address: rafu-olympiad@unn.ru with a list of required documents.
  2. All documents should be sent to the Olympiad email address: rafu-olympiad@unn.ru by March 30, 2026. The organizing committee will respond with a confirmation and an individual registration number to the participant's application. After that the application is considered officially accepted.

 


Is it possible to participate in several Olympiad areas at the same time?

Each participant is able to participate in only one area. If multiple applications from the same participant in different areas are detected, all applications will be cancelled.

 


What is the language and format?

The Olympiad is held remotely in Russian or English (at the participant’s choice).

 


What documents are to be submitted with the application?

  1. A participant's portfolio may include copies of the following documents:

    • a passport or identification card;
    • higher education documents (if the participant is completing their studies, a transcript or other document with current academic performance must be provided);
    • documents demonstrating personal achievements in various fields (certificates or diplomas) obtained no earlier than three years prior to the year of the Olympiad;
    • participant application form (a sample application form will be sent in a response letter from the Olympiad Organizing Committee after submitting online application);
    • consent form to the processing of personal data (a sample document will be sent in a response letter from the Olympiad Organizing Committee after submitting online application).

What are the stages of the Olympiad?

During the First stage the Jury of the relevant subject area evaluates portfolios according to the approved evaluation criteria. Find portfolio evaluation criteria in the "RULES AND DOCUMENTS" section. The ranking table with the results will be published on the Olympiad website and
social media.

The Jury will then conduct online interviews with candidates passed the portfolio competition stage. Find interview evaluation criteria in the "RULES AND DOCUMENTS" section.

Scores for the interview and portfolio competition will determine the winners and awardees of the Olympiad. The results will be published on the Olympiad website and social media on April 7, 2026.

 


What are the benefits and advantages for Olympiad winners and awardees?

The Olympiad awardees and winners are allowed to benefit a tuition-free enrollment into a relevant master's programme under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation at Russian universities members of the RAFU Consortium (in 2026 20 scholarships are available). If the number of winners and awardees applying for master's programs exceeds 20, the remaining awardees will be added to a ranked reserve list for additional scholarships from the Ministry. Additionally, a number of RAFU universities offer Olympiad winners and awardees additional discounts, benefits, and preferences (relevant information will be published later).

 


Will I receive a certificate or diploma as an Olympiad winner?

All winners and awardees will be awarded electronic diplomas (winner, second and third degree), which will be sent to the email address stated during the registration stage. Winners receive winner diplomas. Awardees receive second and third degree diplomas

Other participants do not receive certificates.

 


How many winners and awardees are there in each Olympiad area?

In each area there is a winner and two awardees (first, second and third places). The total number of winners and awardees in each area is determined by the Olympiad organizing committee based on the list of participants, ranked by points.

 


What is the validity period of the status of an Olympiad winner or awardees?

The status of winner or an awardee of the Olympiad (including benefits and privileges) remains valid for 2 years.
