In February 2015, UNN Academic Council decided to form a new Institute from the merger of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and Research Institute for Applied Mathematics and Cybernatics.

The reorganisation is aimed at enhancing competitiveness and creating wider opportunities for research, cross discipline education and innovative teaching.

Departments:

Department of Mathematical Software and Supercomputing Technologies

The Department of Mathematical Support and Supercomputer Technologies is one of the main educational subdivisions of UNN, focused on training qualified personnel and conducting scientific research in the field of modern computer technologies and their application for solving urgent problems of science and technology using supercomputers.

Research directions:

  • Supercomputer simulations in solving decision-making problems by means of global optimization methods
  • High-performance computing, performance analysis and optimization
  • Computational science
  • High-performance computer graphics, scientific visualization and computer vision

Research is carried out in close cooperation with the country's leading scientific centers and industry representatives. The scientific results of the department are recognized in Russia abroad. The department has oneAPI Center of Excellence.

Department of Algebra, Geometry, Discrete Mathematics

The department carries out the training of bachelors, masters, graduates according to the modern right-legged algebra, geometry, discrete mathematics, machine learning. The areas of training are closely related to the scientific areas of the department: algebraic structures, theory of integrable systems, topology, computer algebra, discrete optimization, graphs and algorithms, algorithmic complexity, theory and applications of machine learning. Research is carried out in close cooperation with leading scientific centers of the country and the world and representations of the industry.

Department of informatics and automation of scientific research

The department was created in order to improve the quality of training of specialists, intensify and coordinate research work in the field of informatics and automation of scientific research based on the complex application of computer technology. Scientific work at the department is carried out to expand fundamental and applied research in the field of mathematical modeling, develop algorithms for solving large-sized intractable problems, create software that implements algorithms. The structure of the department includes its branches in the Russian Federal Nuclear Center - All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics, in the Scientific Research Institute of Measuring Systems named after V.E. Sedakova, at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The department includes a research laboratory “Supercomputer technologies for solving science-intensive applied problems”.

Department of Applied Mathematics

The leading staff of the department are professors and scientists with a worldwide reputation and experience in international universities and research centers. The scientific directions of the department cover a wide range of problems in applied mathematics related to the priority areas of the development of science, technology and technology in the Russian Federation. The department's areas of work include a wide range of research from supercomputer research on the principles of quantum computing to cancer bioinformatics and computational biophotonics.

Department of Software Engineering

The department is focused on training qualified personnel and conducting scientific research in two areas:

1) modern industrial technologies for the development of large-scale software and

2) the development and application of methods of probability theory and mathematical statistics.

The department develops scientific directions: supercomputer computing in decision-making problems based on global optimization (together with the Mathematical Software and Supercomputing Technologies department); supercomputer technologies, high performance computing and applications (together with the Mathematical Software and Supercomputing Technologies department); complex software development technologies; robotics; Internet of Things and computer security; queuing theory; theory of nonparametric and robust statistics; theory of robust stability and control in stochastic systems; actuarial and insurance mathematics. On the scientific topics of the department, candidate and doctoral dissertations are defended, articles and monographs are published, employees actively participate in international and Russian scientific conferences, seminars and schools.

Department of Theoretical, Computer and Experimental Mechanics
