Research & Innovation
In 1998, UNN was one of the first Russian universities to set up a research and education centre (REC) for nanotechnologies “Physics of Solid-State Nanostructures”.
In 2010-2011 UNN won four projects aimed at attracting leading scientists to Russian educational institutions of higher professional education.
In 2011 UNN joined the Federal Targeted Program “Development of Pharmaceutical and Medical Industries in the Russian Federation”.
UNN also includes 5 Research Institutes, the Biomedical Cluster and NVIDIA CUDA Research Center.
More than 80 percent of teaching staff members at UNN’s 136 departments hold Doctor or Candidate of Sciences degrees, academic ranks of Professor or Associate Professor. Among them, there are: 13 full members and corresponding members of Russian Academy of Sciences, 374 Doctors of Sciences (Professors), 1091 Candidates of Sciences (Associate Professors), 19 Merited Workers of Science and Engineering of the Russian Federation, 23 holders of the State Prize, of the Government Prize and the Russian President's Prize, 102 Honorary Workers of Higher Professional Education, 13 Merited Workers of Higher Education, 17 winners of the Nizhny Novgorod Prize, one winner of the Pythagoras Award, one laureate of the International Socrates Award, and the 2008 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, Harald zur Hausen.
