UNN is also listed among the top 500 best universities in the world in the area of studies "Physics".

The media company U.S. News & World Report has published its rankings of the world’s best universities, U.S. News Best Global Universities 2018. This rating has very strict selection criteria and focuses mainly on academic research performed by universities, as well as their global reputation.
15 Russian universities have been ranked this year, including 12 participants of the 5-100 project. The leader of the global rating among Russian universities is the Lomonosov Moscow State University holding the 267th position. Lobachevsky University takes the 13th place among Russian universities.

According to the Rector of the UNN, Professor E.V. Chuprunov, the fact that Lobachevsky University is listed in this rating illustrates the university’s success in the field of international academic and scientific cooperation and breakthrough research. "Lobachevsky University has a high research potential and talented faculty to successfully compete in the global educational arena. Thanks to UNN’s participation in the Russian Academic Excellence Project (5-100 Project), the university was able to upgrade its research infrastructure, raise the level of research activity, expand the geography of international cooperation with the world's leading scientific and educational centers," said Evgeny Chuprunov.

U.S. News has been ranking U.S. universities separately for more than 30 years, and since 2014 it has been publishing global rankings. U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings are based on 13 indicators, including publications activity, citation, global and regional research reputation. Each of the 1,250 top-ranked school's profile pages on usnews.com lists the overall global score as well as numerical ranks for the 13 indicators, allowing students to compare each university's standing in each indicator. The overall Best Global Universities rankings encompass the top 1,250 institutions spread across 74 countries – up from the top 1,000 universities in 65 countries ranked last year, 750 universities in 57 countries in the 2016 rankings and 500 universities in 49 countries in the 2015 rankings.
