On November 26, international students of the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History visited the Cathedral of the Most Holy Theotokos (Stroganov Church on Rozhdestvenskaya Street) in Nizhny Novgorod. Professor Alexander Kornilov, who led the tour, explained how Orthodox churches were built and told the students about the history of this particular church associated with the name and activities of the Stroganov family. He also gave some interesting facts about the life of the parish during the Russian Empire, the miraculous preservation of the iconostasis during the Soviet period and the restoration of parish life in the 1990s. International students expressed their interest in the peculiarities of the divine service in the Russian Orthodox Church, asked questions about the attitude of modern Russians to church life, and about the role of Orthodox tradition in Russian society and in the Russian state. The excursion took place within the framework of out-of-class studies of the subject "World religions".
