UNN research will help prevent ethnic tensions from degenerating into conflicts, if it sees the success. The project is funded by the Russian Science Foundation (RSF).

In this project, dedicated to the development of new forecasting methodologies, a group of scientists, led by Alexander Petukhov, Associate Professor at UNN Institute of International Relations and World History, use mathematical and cognitive models to monitor ethno-social conflicts during bouts of information warfare.

The aim is to develop a nonlinear dynamical systems model to gain an insight into the challenges facing Russia. Several cognitive algorithms being explored at the Institute, the idea is that these algorithms will describe ways in which radical groups actually seek to redraw ethnic boundaries and endanger national stability.

Project Timeframe
The project commenced in 2015 and will end in 2017.
