A three-year research project led by Dr Dmitry Skvortsev won a government grant to invent an adaptive robotic rehabilitation system for patients with neurological disorders. The aim is to develop scientific and technical solutions to create a smart assistance system which will be tailored to the specifics of the patient's physical condition and help patients' movements.

Algorithms are being developed to compute the appropriate control actions taking into account the feebleness of the muscular system. A new system will include tools for doctors to use functional electrical stimulation of muscles in the absence of movement.

The grant, for 34 million rubles over three years, is under the Federal Programme for Research and Development in Priority Areas of Development of the Russian Scientific and Technological Complex for 2014-2020.
