The project being developed with Niagara Computers LLC received government financing

CYBER HEART is more than the virtual beating heart. A new high-technology project being developed by experts at Lobachevsky University and specialists of Niagara Computers LLC, the market leader in supercomputer technology, will be a practical tool to save lives through early detection of dangerous patterns of cardiac activity.

This will be possible through high-precision realistic computer modelling of heart dynamics which will integrate characteristics of the heart of a patient. And more than that, CYBER HEART will take a virtual electrocardiogram (ECG), build a recovery curve and reliable space-time projections, analyze the influence of medication, including various types of influences (electrical, mechanical, optical, etc).

The project will result in a mobile ECG system with ECG results sent over the wireless network and processed on a cloud server.

The research project is led by Prof. Grigory Osipov, Head of the Department of Control Theory and Dynamics of Systems at the Institute of IT, Mathematics and Mechanics. Earlier this year, researchers of the Institute created a virtual clone of the human being to analyze a range of options for treating a patient. In silico testing of drugs to treat diseases – that is via computer simulations with models closely reflecting the real world – is today the most promising technology. But it demands sophisticated computer models.

CYBER HEART will incorporate high performance computer solutions for in silico testing. Academics of the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine of Lobachevsky University, and specialists of Niagara Computers LLC as well, will be co-researchers within the project.

The three-year project received funding of 170 million rubles from the Russian government.
