The Research Institute for Chemistry of Lobachevsky University is starting a project on “Creation of the high-tech production of non-carcinogenic oil plasticizers for the manufacture of tires, rubbers and plastics using innovative technology for recycling the oil industry’s waste.” This is a joint project with the managing company of Nizhny Novgorod–based biochemical holding ORGKHIM. The three-year project will receive funding of 170 million rubles from the Russian government.

From research to real products

The project aims at developing technology for improving oil waste recyclability and introducing new to the Russian market high-tech, non-carcinogenic chemical products. It brings together fundamental laboratory research with research into manufacturing techniques. Science and technology researchers will be working alongside experts with industrial experience. So the research will be grounded in a broader manufacturing context.

It is expected that the Research Institute and its industry partner will set up manufacturing facilities with a total capacity of 130,000 tons per year.

Placing the region at the heart of high-tech manufacturing and technology

Once again, Lobachevsky University received a government subsidy to develop innovative products with leaders of the Russian market.

The success of the project will result in increased import substitution of white oils (widely used in the food industry) and non-carcinogenic aromatic oils (used in production of tires and rubbers).
