UNN Signs Cooperation Agreements with Two Chinese Universities
Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN) is involved in partnerships with two Sichuan universities - Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) in Chongqing and Sichuan University in Chengdu. The partnerships were formally signed during a visit led by UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs Mr. Alexander Bedny from April 7 to 10, 2015.
The Vice-Rector was accompanied by Mr. Konstantin Kemaev, Deputy Dean of UNN Faculty for International Students, and Mrs. Julia Pomelova, Documentation Assistant. During their time in China, the UNN delegation held talks with President Li Keyong at Sichuan International Studies University and Prof. Yan Shijing, Vice President of International Affairs at Sichuan University. As a result, two agreements to strengthen cooperation were signed.
The cooperation agreements will involve students and academics from China and Russia spending time in each other’s countries on joint initiatives. The goal is to jointly develop educational programmes, summer schools as well as research activities with focus on current problems in two countries and teaching Russian and Chinese as foreign languages.
Following the signing of the agreements, the UNN delegation gave presentations to students from the faculties of Russian language with an interest in engaging them in joint activities and facilitating a successful enrolment process. The presentations detailed programmes and scholarships available to applicants from the region and Mr. Alexander Bedny answered questions from the audience.
The cooperation with Sichuan universities began around a year ago, with the first students arriving in summer 2014. Fifteen Summer School students from Lobachevsky University visited Chengdu and thirteen Chinese students visited UNN under the programme. Due to intergovernmental quotas, it was possible for students from Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) to undertake a study placement at UNN. Seven students from SISU are currently on placement at Lobachevsky University.
Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod is partnering with Sichuan International Studies University and Sichuan University in a Russian-Chinese intergovernmental project to develop cooperation between 14 Volga regions in Russia and five Chinese provinces, along with a city, in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River (‘Volga-Yangtze’, established in 2013). Both sides seek to develop the bilateral relationship on science and education and other collaborative partnerships.
