The 2014-2015 European Union-sponsored U-Multirank placed Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod – National Research University (UNN) in top 50 worldwide for Computer Science and Psychology.

U-Multirank, a new global multidimensional ranking of higher education institutions, was developed by an independent consortium led by German and Dutch centres for higher education and supported by the European Commission. Comparisons are made across seven fields of study: electrical and mechanical engineering, business studies, physics, psychology, computer science and medicine.

UNN Rector, Prof. Evgeny Chuprunov said the fact the University was ranked in top 50 was the result of the complex work done by the University to develop human capital and support key staff and young talent under the Program on Сompetitiveness Enhancement of Leading Russian Universities among Global Research and Education Centres. He explained that with scientific experimental and training facilities radically renewed and a unique model for functional integration with the Institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences in place, Lobachevsky University attracts world-renowned scientists and the future stars of science, develops dual degree programmes with the leading universities in the world and does much more.

It is the second year that Lobachevsky University was ranked by U-Multirank and its position has strengthened.

This year’s edition presents information on more than 1,200 higher education institutions, up from 850 in the first edition. The universities come from 83 countries, with 7,500 study programmes in seven fields of study. U-Multirank judges universities across their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer, regional engagement and international outlook – and grades them from “A” (very good) to “E” (weak). Comprehensive and balanced comparisons are available for students and applicants.
