A new special issue of Applied Mathematics and Computation, an Elsevier’s international journal (a journal impact factor of 1.6), is now out of print. It is devoted to the University of Calabria – UNN joint international conference ‘Numerical Computations: Theory and Algorithms (NUMTA)’ which was held from 17 to 23 June 2013 in Falerna, Italy.

The Conference was organized in cooperation with the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, USA. The Program Committee of the NUMTA 2013 was chaired by Prof. Yaroslav D. Sergeyev from the Software Department, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN), who is the recipient of prestigious Russian and international awards in the fields of mathematics and computer science and coordinator of the University of Calabria – UNN joint research and educational program, Russian–Italian University, which has now been running for 20 years. The Organizing Committee of the NUMTA 2013 was chaired by Dmitri E. Kvasov, also from the Software Department, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN).

This new special issue of Applied Mathematics and Computation (Volume 255, 15 March 2015) is edited by Yaroslav D. Sergeyev, Dmitri E. Kvasov and  Renato De Leone (University of Camerino, Italy). It contains 24 high-quality research papers on the practical and theoretical aspects of numerical analysis, mathematical modeling, optimization and computations with infinities and infinitesimals.

In fact, this is the second time an international journal devotes a special issue to NUMTA2013 Conference. Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation, an international journal ranked the first in 2014 Google Scholar metrics on nonlinear science, covered the subject in the recent issue.
