Mr. Martin Paul, President of Maastricht University (the Netherlands), met with Mr. Alexander Grudzinskiy (UNN First Vice-Rector), Mr. Kendrick White (UNN Vice-Rector for Innovation), Mr. Alexander Bedny (UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs), Mr. Nikita Avralev (UNN Vice-Rector for Public Relations), Mr. Alexey Semyanov (Director of UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine), Mr. Viktor Gergel (Director of UNN Institute of IT, Mathematics and Mechanics) and Ms. Olga Petrova (Deputy Director of UNN Institute of Economics and Entrepreneurship) to discuss a University’s road map for the second phase of Project 5-100 on March 5.

Project 5-100 is the Russian Government’s initiative to enable five Russian universities to enter top 100 world universities by 2020. UNN and other 13 promising universities are due to present their revised road maps on implementation of Project 5-100 action plans to the Council on Competitiveness Enhancement of Russian Universities at a meeting in Tomsk on March 20-21.

In January 2015, Prof. Dr. Martin Paul became the Head of the International Council which was established in accordance with the Statute of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN) to foster the development of the University in terms of enhancing its international competitiveness among leading research and educational centers of the world.

On March 6, Mr Alexey Semyanov (Director of UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine) led Mr. Martin Paul on a tour of UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine.

This was followed by a visit to UNN Biomedical Cluster building under construction and the Research Institute for Physics and Technology. The visit will be concluded with Mr. Martin Paul viewing UNN Media Centre facilities and Lobachevsky, the 24th most powerful world’s university-based supercomputer.
