On December 22, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN) signed a networking agreement with Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy and Nizhny Novgorod Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This innovative partnership between three leading research institutions sets up a framework which allows them to join forces and assist each other in enhancing their competitiveness as well as to coordinate activities and develop innovative education and research, notably in the field of biomedicine.

The Networking Agreement was signed by UNN Rector Evgeny Chuprunov, Rector of Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy Boris Shakhov and Head of Nizhny Novgorod Scientific Center of RAS Alexander Litvak.

“Modern science has moved from analysis to synthesis. Many medical technologies are developed today in new ways that cross traditional boundaries among disciplines, and a multi-discipline university is the most suitable place for this. UNN’s managed to incorporate pretty much everything that has value in the academic biology world within its biomedical research. UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine, which was established in late 2014, will consist of a training unit, a research unit and an innovative unit. With one year left before the centennial anniversary of Lobachevky State University of Nizhni Novgorod, construction of the building of [Biomedical] Innovation Centre is planned to be completed by this date,” UNN Rector Evgeny Chuprunov said.

“Nizhny Novgorod academic science was born at University, than it was developed independently, but we always remember that scientific schools were first founded by academicians at UNN. Science has no future without high-quality higher education, and high-quality higher education can’t be provided without science.  So we have to interact with each other. This interaction has acquired special significance as UNN is seriously engaged in biomedical research,” Alexander Litvak, Head of Nizhny Novgorod Scientific Center of RAS and Director of the Institute of Applied Physics of RAS, said.

“In 2015 Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy celebrates its 95th anniversary, and our history began when the Faculty of Medicine was established at UNN. Our relationship continues to grow – the document signed today confirms that we are together. This ‘Triple Alliance’ (UNN, Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy, Nizhny Novgorod Scientific Center of RAS) will help us to meet challenges for the benefit of the society, academic world and Russia,” Boris Shakhov, Rector of Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy, said.
