The delegation of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN) gave a report of the implementation of Russian Academic Excellence Project 5-100 during the session of the International Council on Competitiveness Enhancement of Leading Russian Universities chaired by Dmitry V. Livanov, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, which was held from October 17 to 18 in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The Russian Government’s initiative to enable 5 Russian universities to enter top 100 world universities by 2020, also known as Project 5-100, was launched on May 7, 2012. UNN, together with other 14 promising universities, is now supervised by the International Council, which is comprised of six Russian and six non-Russian members. The latter are trusted members of the international academic community.

The first day of the session of the Project 5-100 International Council saw the report of the top administration of UNN, including Rector Mr. Evgeny Chuprunov, First Vice-Rector Mr. Alexander Grudzinskiy, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Mr. Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for Public Relations, Mr. Nikita Avralev, and Vice-Rector for Innovation, Mr. Kendrick D. White.

The members of the Council noted that a number of publications of UNN staff in leading world’s scientific journals had increased, as well as the number of international students and world renowned scientists coming to UNN. It is a clear sign of growing internationalization.
