Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod Badminton Team finished in 8th place at the 2nd European Universities Games, which were held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from July 21 to August 9.

According to the European University Sport Association’ website, the European Universities Games is the largest European multisport student event featuring 10 sports – 277 teams from 180 universities from 35 countries took part in the games this year, with about 2,900 athletes competing for medals.

Only two universities badminton teams – those of Saratov State University and Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN) – represented the Russian Federation. UNN Badminton team consisted of students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Andrey Dolotov and Anastasiia Cherviakova, and students of the Institute of Economics and Entrepreneurship, Ilya Kamyshenkov, Iuliia Rumiantceva and Irina Zaikova.

UNN Badminton Team had a win over Switzerland and lost against Turkey, thus securing the 2nd position in the Group E. The team defeated the teams from France and Romania. Unfortunately, it lost against Poland and ended up eighth. The University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, became the current holders of the badminton championship, and Uludag University, Turkey, finished in the second place in badminton and in the first place overall.

The best performance of UNN badminton team was that of Anastasiia Cherviakova, who won a silver medal losing to a Turkish athlete in the final match.

Russian Team is on the 6th spot in the table and has 3 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals in total.
