Prof. Harald zur Hausen, 2008 Nobel Laureate in Medicine, will give a lecture on cancer prevention through vaccination at Lobachevsky State University on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. The lecture will start at 14.00 in UNN Auditorium, Building 2, 3rd floor, 23 Gagarin Avenue, Nizhny Novgorod.

Prof. Harald zur Hausen will participate in Russian-German Symposium ‘Immunology and Cancer’, which will be held in Nizhny Novgorod from September 2 to 5, 2014. He will also visit a UNN Mega grant laboratory that is developing new drugs and therapies for auto-immune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis.

Harald zur Hausen received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2008 for isolating Human papillomavirus (HPV) types which are responsible for cervical cancer (a breakthrough made in 1982 and 1983).

The Academic Council of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod awarded Prof. Harald zur Hausen Doctor of Sciences honoris causa in June 2014. The award ceremony will take place on September 2, 2014.
