On February 1, a public session of the Nizhni Novgorod Branch of the Russian Historical Society was  held at Lobachevsky University. The first event organized by the Russian Historical Society in 2017 was attended by the UNN Rector Evugeny Chuprunov,  UNN President Roman Strongin, Director of the Institute of International Relations and World History Mikhail Rykhtik, historians and  representatives of public organizations. Evgeny Chuprunov thanked the participants for coming to the University and expressed his appreciation for the Russian Historical Society members’ having chosen Lobachevsky University as a site for their activities. At the beginning of the meeting, a number of activists of public organizations were presented with letters of appreciation for their efforts in preserving and promoting historical and cultural heritage of Russia. During the session, the work plans of the Branch for 2017 were discussed and priority areas for the coming years were proposed.   

The Russian Historical Society is one of the most respected professional, cultural and educational associations of historians. Its membership includes both individual professionals and organizations from all regions of Russia. The Russian Historical Society Branch in Nizhni Novgorod was officially opened at Lobachevsky University on September 15, 2016.
