UNN scientists develop neurocognitive optoelectronic system for stimulation and synchronization of neurons in the brain
In the framework of the project aimed at the development of a neurocognitive optoelectronic system for stimulation and synchronization of brain neurons, UNN scientists have obtained some new results that can be used in several areas of science and technology, primarily, in IT and biomedical technology. In the first of these areas, the results obtained can be used to develop advanced intelligent automatic control systems and information processing systems that reproduce the principles of brain operation. In the second area, there are good prospects for using research results in neuroprosthetic devices, in control systems for robotic prosthetics, in the equipment for functional diagnostics of the state of electrically excitable tissues and for identifying glial brain tumor boundaries. At this stage, a model of the neurocognitive optoelectronic system for stimulation and synchronization of brain neurons was studied experimentally at the laboratory bench level. Experiments were also carried out to register electrical activity of neurons in the living brain with the help of a portable registration unit and to amplify electrophysiological signals using wireless data transmission. A special unit developed for registering photosensitizer fluorescence was used to experimentally investigate the possibility of identifying the boundaries of brain glial tumors. The work was carried out jointly with the Federal State Institution "The Volga Federal Medical Research Center". The industrial partner of the project is LLC "NN Intelligent Systems".
