The 31st international Olympiad in Informatics IOI-2019  was held from 4 to 11 August 2019 in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku.

The Russian team consisted of four students. The team won four gold medals and took first place in the medal standings. The winners are following:

- Ildar Gainullin, a student of the 11th grade of Lobachevsky Lyceum at the Kazan Federal University,

- Alexander Morozov, an alumni of the Presidential physics and mathematics Lyceum № 239 in St. Petersburg,

- Vladimir Romanov, a graduate of the Moscow state University,

- Yegor Lifar, a 10th grade student of the Moscow school "Intellectual".

The Russian team was prepared by coaches from leading Russian universities: Andrey Stankevich (ITMO University), Mikhail Tikhomirov and Andrey Sergunin (MIPT), senior developer of Yandex Maxim Akhmedov (HSE), Nikolai Kalinin (Lobachevsky University), Grigory Reznikov (Moscow state University), Nicholas Budin, Gennady Korotkevich, Arseniy Kirillov, Alexander Drozdov, Ilya Sbang and Ramazan Rakhmatullin from ITMO University, Oleg Khristenko (the chief judge of the Moscow Workshops ICPC) under the leadership of Pro-rector of MIPT of Alex Maleev.

One of the coaches who led our team to the victories was Nikolai Kalinin, a master student at the Higher school of General and applied Physics of Lobachevsky University.

"In 2013 and 2014 I became a gold medalist of IOI, and now I am preparing students for the Olympiads in Informatics at various levels in Nizhny Novgorod and participate in the preparation of the Russian team for IOI. A competition of such a high level as the international school Olympiad always requires participants to demonstrate the knowledge and skills gained in the course of training as well as the ability to find solutions to completely new, previously unexplored problems. This year the team showed an impressive result, the best in the last few years. Congratulations to the team and all people involved in the success!"- said one of the coaches of the winning team Nikolai Kalinin.

Nikolay was kin on sports programming in elementary school. What is more his elder brother Peter doubly was  a member of the international Olympiads of students in computer science.

No doubt that  Nicholay’s victories are the merit of his first coach the founder of the Nizhny Novgorod school of Olympiad programming Vladimir Lelyukh.

"We are pleased to congratulate Nikolai Kalinin on this serious victory, that, surely, was not easy, and that indicates that today our guys are the strongest in the world of computer science as well as that the best of the best are prepared by Nizhny Novgorod teachers", –  appreciated the merit of the Nizhny Novgorod citizen Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Andrey Gneushev.

Lobachevsky University developed various forms of methodological and pedagogical support of schools in computer science for motivated pupils. Normally classes are taught by University professors. But in recent years undergraduates, graduate students and representatives of employers are actively involved. For example, the school "I-Tutor" in mathematics and computer science for students in grades 5-7 at Lobachevsky University is organized and conducted exclusively by University students.

"The country's first faculty of computational mathematics and Cybernetics was established at Lobachevsky University 55 year ago. It was designed to train professionals for the needs of unique sectors of Soviet industry. The outstanding scientists of that time have created an authoritative scientific school, which continues its activities within the walls of the University to this day. Our students annually show brilliant results at the world Championships and programming Championships, regularly winning silver and bronze medals. The high quality of training of our graduates-programmers provides them with excellent career prospects in the world's best IT-companies. Also in the field of information technology, we pay great attention to the training of students as well as school children. And we are glad that Nikolai Kalinin, a graduate student of Lobachevsky University, who works with students, is their mentor in preparing for the Olympics at different levels and glorifies our University and the Nizhny Novgorod region," said the Lobachevsky University acting rector Kirill Markov.

School of sports programming is headed by senior officer of "Yandex" Peter Kalinin, who is the alumni Lobachevsky University. Since 2017 his brother Nikolay Kalinin helps him in this project. Both of them are winners of the world championship in sports programming among students.
