Educational game "Model of the United Nations and other international organisations" held at UNN
An educational simulation game "Model of the United Nations and Other International Organisations / UNN-2026" took place at the Institute of International Relations and World History of Lobachevsky University. Sixty-five students from Nizhny Novgorod took part in the event.
The event was organised by students and faculty of the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History. Students from other units of Lobachevsky University, as well as HSE - Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management (a branch of RANEPA), and Minin State Pedagogical University of Nizhny Novgorod also took part.
Olga Guseva, Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region, who attended the opening of the educational game, noted that the number of international students choosing Nizhny Novgorod universities is growing every year, which undoubtedly strengthens the region’s global ties.
Alongside Russian delegates, international students from Mexico, Colombia, Nigeria, Ecuador, Peru, Iran, and Pakistan took part in the "Model of the United Nations and Other International Organisations / UNN-2026".
"Developing international activities is among the top priorities for Lobachevsky University. We have students from nearly a hundred countries around the world. The university offers more than just lectures, laboratories, practical training, tests, and exams. The UNN Institute of International Relations and World History has a tradition of creating opportunities for those who wish to engage in modelling the work of international organisations. I am convinced that such opportunities outside the formal educational framework are essential for preparing future professionals. Your professional landscape is so dynamic that it is very difficult to prepare for what will happen in just a few years from now. That’s why additional opportunities provided to you by the university are crucial. What matters most is your willingness to move forward, your involvement, and your desire to make the most of these opportunities," noted Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice Rector for Strategic Development and International Affairs.
The participants of the game were greeted by Mikhail Rykhtik, Director of the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History, Doctor of Political Sciences, and Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He encouraged the students not to rely on conventional and widely known knowledge but to look for original and non-standard solutions. He emphasised that fostering critical thinking among students is one of the university's most important objectives, enabling them to analyse and evaluate current events responsibly in the future.
"Study, discover things that are unclear and unusual, commit them to memory, so that once you graduate, you can carry the meanings and ideals you are truly convinced of. Make yourselves happy, but it’s very important to understand that we can only be happy as part of something greater," Mikhail Rykhtik said.
The delegates of the model game worked in the following sections: "Security Council", "European Council", "Shanghai Cooperation Organization", "League of Arab States" and "Historical Crisis". Their work resulted in a set of final resolutions where students proposed their own approaches to solving international problems.
