Football at UNN

Football in Russia has a very vast history stretching back to the times of the Soviet Union where the country was renowned for producing talented footballers. After a lull in popularity in the sport after the breakup of the Soviet Union Football is once again the most popular sport in Russia with participation increasing year upon year.

As well as being a host city for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, UNN and Nizhny Novgorod are actively contributing towards the success of the sport in Russia with Real Madrid striker Denis Cheryshev hailing from the city and the faculty hosting a player roster including former professionals and youth internationals from Nigeria and Scotland with David Wiggins from the International Students Office focusing his career within the Commercial side of the sport at professional team Carlisle United in England.

UNN has many facilities to help reach budding footballers of all levels reach their potential with an onsite Football Pitch located on campus as well as indoor training facilities and football pitches, professional coaching and Gym facilities, with investment in improving them surely to come before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

UNN has several football teams in two different formats of the game 5 a-side and 11 a-side in both Men’s and Women’s football, with the university offering a UNN team in 5 a-side played indoors due to the ever weather conditions making it almost impossible for the University to field an 11 a-side team throughout the whole academic year. During the spring and summer months UNN hosts an annual World Cup football competition open to all students, which allows students from one country to compete against students from another with prizes up for grabs.

UNN welcomes participants from all those interested regarding your previous background with the sport. Below is listing the timetable for both the University Team training times and the times of the coaching sessions of graded classes.
