A New Model of Russian Doctoral Education: Problems and Prospects for Development

On November 15-16, Lobachevsky University hosted a seminar within the framework of the Advanced Training Program “A New Model of Russian Doctoral Education: Problems and Prospects for Development”. The program manager is Professor Boris Bedny, Director of the UNN Institute of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies. Seminar participants were welcomed by Evgeny Chuprunov, Rector of the Lobachevsky University. The seminar was attended by administrative, managerial and academic staff from 23 cities in the Russian Federation who represented 36 universities and research organizations. For two days, the participants discussed the features of the new model of doctoral education in Russia, the system of state scientific certification, the approaches to targeted training of scientific personnel, the development of teaching competencies in PhD program graduates and many other issues. The program is being implemented with the support of the journal “Higher Education in Russia”.
