African Students' Council established at Lobachevsky University
The Council of African Students has been established at Lobachevsky University. During the inception meeting held at the House of Friendship and Cultural Diversity of UNN students, the Council’s future activities were discussed, as well as the most pressing issues related to African students’ stay and life in Nizhny Novgorod.
The students shared their ideas and exchanged opinions on how the council's activities can help the university in its interaction with students. They also learnt about the student self-government system, and Dmitry Medvedev, Head of the International Students Support Office, introduced the students to the activities of the already existing national councils at Lobachevsky University.
"The establishment of the African Students’ Council is a very welcome and long-awaited event. Representatives of various countries from Africa study at UNN and most of them take an active part in the social life of our university’s international community. The new African Council will surely give an additional impetus to our students to become even more active in presenting and getting acquainted with the culture and traditions of African countries. The national association will help both students already studying and newcomers feel more confident and adapt more quickly to new life conditions," said Dmitry Medvedev.
Currently, the councils of Algerian, Egyptian, Syrian, Turkmen, Indian and Latin American students are functioning and implementing various social and cultural projects at Lobachevsky University. The new student council will make a significant contribution to the system of student self-government and the programmes of socialisation, adaptation and integration of international students.
