Alexander Bedny meets with representatives of Sri Lankan universities
A series of meetings with Sri Lankan university delegations took place at Lobachevsky University in September. It was moderated by representatives of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia.
The first to pay a visit to UNN were representatives of the University of Vavuniya. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Professor Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage took part in the working meeting and emphasised that now it is very important to develop relations between the two countries. Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Networking, made the welcoming remarks on behalf of Lobachevsky University. He expressed his hope that a solid basis for cooperation will be formed between the universities.
Taking part in the second meeting was a delegation from the University of Peradeniya.
Deputy Vice-Rector of Lobachevsky University Konstantin Kemaev, Director of the International Division of Vavuniya University Dr. Ravinthirakumaran Navaratnam and Head of the History Department of Peradeniya University Prof. Rohitha Dassanayake gave an overview of their universities and shared their vision on possible areas of cooperation and collaboration.
The parties held meetings in a friendly atmosphere, made presentations of their universities and expressed particular interest in establishing ties through exchange of postgraduate students and lecturers, joint research in applied sciences, business, technology, etc. The universities agreed to prepare a joint roadmap for developing cooperation.
As a result of the visit of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka Prof. Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage to Lobachevsky University, the willingness to develop cooperation with the universities of Sri Lanka was confirmed.
