Home - News RSS feed - Annual Conference of the Jean Monnet Program Held in Brussels


Andrei Leonov, Senior Lecturer of the UNN Department of European and International Law took part in the annual conference of the Jean Monnet program organized by the European Commission in Brussels on 17-18 October. Every year, the conference brings together more than 200 researchers from different countries who are grant holders of the Jean Monnet program ("Erasmus +"). This year, it was attended by official representatives of the European Union, including Tibor Navratsis (European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports), Nathalie Tocci (Special Advisor to the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Deputy Director of the Institute of International Relations (IAI, Rome, Italy), Claire Morel (Head of the European Commission for International Cooperation and Youth) and some others.

In the section on the internal security of the European Union, A. Leonov  presented his paper on the causes of the current problems and possible responses to the challenges to European security, such as terrorism, the crisis of the asylum system in the EU, and human trafficking. Andrei Leonov heads the international project EUSECU-POLE (http://euglobe.ru/eusecu-pole-project/) within the framework of the Jean Monnet program. The project is focused on the study of the legal issues of the international and European security. The conference in Brussels contributed to establishing new contacts with foreign and Russian colleagues for the successful implementation of this project.
