On 17 December, Lobachevsky University hosted an Anti-Drug Event, which became a hallmark of the activists of the Programme of Social Initiatives of International Students “I Сare - I Сan”. The aim of the event is to inform students about the harmful effects of narcotic drugs.
The meeting was attended by about 250 Russian and international students. It was organised by the International Students Support Office of Lobachevsky University with the help of officers from the Drug Trafficking Control Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Anastasia Koznova, an officer of the Prevention Unit of the Drug Trafficking Control Department, told the audience about the harmful effects of narcotic and psychotropic substances on the human body and about the responsibility that may result from the use or trafficking of illegal substances. The police officer also urged the international students of Lobachevsky University to follow a healthy lifestyle and engage in sports.
During the event, the film “The Ghost of Yesterday” made by international students of Lobachevsky University was screened. It evoked a lively response from the audience and prompted the participants to think about the significance of the drug addiction problem. The Anti-Drug Event concluded with a remarkable musical number performed by UNN international students.
According to Dmitry Medvedev, Head of the UNN International Students Support Office who is in charge of the “I Care - I Can” programme of social initiatives, the Anti-Drug Event makes an important part of the programme. It has been held at Lobachevsky University for several years, and every time this event finds the widest response from young people studying at the university.
“Our students have always taken a responsible approach to participation in this meeting. They prepare musical numbers, stage performances that are very meaningful and rich in content, and make short films. I thank everyone who took part in today's event and remind you that the choice is always yours. Choose health, choose life, choose a future without drugs,” said Dmitry Medvedev.
