Arzamas branch of Lobachevsky University celebrates the 90th anniversary of pedagogical education
Jubilee events took place at the Arzamas branch of Lobachevsky University on 19 November. The celebration programme included the International Research Conference “Pedagogical Education: Traditions and Innovations, Space and Opportunities“. It gathered more than 400 participants from different regions of Russia, as well as from abroad.
Congratulations were offered by Lubov Glebova, Senator of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, graduate of the Arzamas State Pedagogical Institute, Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, representatives of the Ministry of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the administration of the Arzamas city district, and Oleg Trofimov, Rector of Lobachevsky University.
“Our Arzamas branch contributes to providing pedagogical professionals not only for the Nizhny Novgorod region, but also for the whole country. It is a major centre of education and enlightenment, which integrates pedagogical, research and cultural activities. It enjoys well-deserved reputation in the research and educational community, and ensures the continuity of the training process for general education,“ said Oleg Trofimov.
The anniversary events concluded with a gala concert “Arzamas Pedagogical Institute: yesterday, today, tomorrow”, which was attended by its teaching staff, alumni, students and veterans. The jubilee gathered hundreds of alumni, congratulatory addresses came from partners and colleagues in different regions of Russia.
The Arzamas Pedagogical Institute was opened on 1 October, 1934 with three departments: physics and mathematics, history and social studies, and geography. In April 1935, the Arzamas Regional Pedagogical Institute received the status of the State Teachers' Institute. On April 10, 1952 by the decision of the Executive Committee of the Gorky Regional Council in accordance with the order of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of March 28, 1952, the Arzamas State Teachers' Institute
It was reorganized in September 1952 into the Arzamas State Pedagogical Institute. In 2012, the institution was transformed into the Arzamas branch Lobachevsky University.
