”Between Pushkin and memes”: UNN projects win the Russian language competition
At the international competition titled "We Speak, Write, and Think in Russian!" organised by the Moscow Union of Journalists, the project "Literate Nizhny" of the UNN Institute of Philology and Journalism was awarded first place in the category "Best Online Resource about the Russian Language." In the same competition, Anna Fedotova, a student from the Institute of Philology and Journalism, won with her work "Between Pushkin and Memes" in the category "Best Youth Publication about the Russian Language."
Her essay explores slang and borrowings in the modern Russian language. Anna Fedotova emphasised that the Russian language maintains its core structure, and its modernity is expressed in the ability to adapt, in the dialogue between the eternal and the momentary: between Pushkin and memes.
"Most Anglicisms become the trendy words of the moment. I believe this is not such a global problem as many people present it to be. The modern Russian language does not decline because of this; it simply adapts to contemporary cultural, political, and economic realities," Anna Fedotova noted.
