Boldino Readings open at Lobachevsky University
On September 14, the 54th International Conference «Boldino Readings» started at the UNN Institute of Philology and Journalism.
Mikhail Pelchenkov, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod region, and Oleg Trofimov, Rector of UNN, addressed the participants with opening remarks. They emphasised the significance of this event for preserving cultural heritage and fostering academic dialogue.
The «Boldino Readings» is more than just a conference; it is a living tradition that began in the 1960s and acquired international status in 2004. This year, the event has brought together over 50 experts from various regions of Russia and from abroad, including such counties as Moldova, Turkey, China, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Croatia.
Among the participants are renowned Pushkin scholars such as Galina Gumennaya, Irina Yukhnova, Alexey Balakin, Sergey Pyatkin, Dmitry Ivinsky, Vladimir Korovin, Anatoly Koshelev, Natalia Mikhailova, Vladimir Orlov, and Ivan Volkov.
The forum's programmeincludes a wide range of topical issues in Pushkin studies. The researchers focus on the themes and poetics of Pushkin's works, his impact on world literature, the study of Pushkin's circle of poets, and the evolution of Pushkin studies itself. Special attention in the discussions will be given to the 200th anniversary of the poem «The Prophet» and the 190th anniversary of the novel «The Captain's Daughter».
For young scholars, the conference offers a unique chance to present their work in a professional setting and become part of a broader academic context. During the forum, a presentation of the «Boldino Readings» collection based on the 2025 conference results will be held, along with the monograph by V. A. Koshelev «Pushkin. Biography as a Theatre».
On September 15 to 16, the conference will continue at the Nizhny Novgorod Pushkin Museum, and on September 17, participants will move to the Boldino Museum-Reserve.
Following the forum, a new collection of scholarly papers will be published. The event is organised by the Ministry of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Lobachevsky University, and the Boldino Museum-Reserve.
