On April 23, Lobachevsky University welcomed a delegation of the Embassy of Brazil in the Russian Federation headed by the First Secretary, Head of the Department of Culture and Cooperation in Education, Press and Public Diplomacy, Mr. Alvaro Augusto Guedes Galvani.

During the working meeting with Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs, the parties discussed development of scientific and educational cooperation, including strengthening partnerships with leading Brazilian universities, teaching Portuguese as a foreign language, participation of Lobachevsky University in the Brazilian state programme Leitorado Brasileiro. Also taking part in the discussion were Mikhail Rykhtik, Director of the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History, and Konstantin Kemaev, Head of the International Cooperation Office.

Alexander Bedny told the guests about UNN's educational programmes and research projects, including productive experience of cooperation with partners from Brazil. Mr. Guedes Galvani highly appreciated Lobachevsky University's achievements and outlined a number of promising areas for future cooperation, in particular in the field of information technologies, innovation, physics and biotechnology. According to the Brazilian side, there is great interest in joint research, cultural and educational projects between Russia and other BRICS countries. Lobachevsky University has been involved in scientific and educational cooperation with the University of Sul de Minas Gerais (дать ссылку) in Brazil since 2015, including academic exchanges of students and a grant project of the Russian Science Foundation implemented under the BRICS Framework Programme for Science, Technology and Innovation. The project is focused on the research on gallium oxide, a promising material for new generation electronics and photonics (project leader on the Russian side is Professor David Tetelbaum, leading researcher of the UNN Physics and Technology Research Institute).

Lobachevsky University, represented by Professor Victor Gergel, is also an active participant in the BRICS Working Group on Information and Communication Technologies and High Performance Computing. In 2020, Lobachevsky University hosted the IV Meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Information and Communication Technologies and High Performance Computing.
