On September 29, a delegation of the University of Oviedo (Spain) visited Lobachevsky University. The delegation included Rector Santiago Garcia-Granda and Vice-Rector for University Extension and International Development Francisco Jose Borge Lopez. The Spanish guests were welcomed by Vice-Rector for International Affairs Alexander Bedny and Head of the International Office Irina Leonova. Also took part in the meeting Alexander Knyazev, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Nikolai Somov, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Physics. During the meeting, Alexander Bedny told the guests about the structure and activities of the Lobachevsky University, its international cooperation, including student exchanges within the framework of the Erasmus Plus program. The representatives of the Spanish university gave an overview of the University of Oviedo, its history and current programs and expressed interest in developing existing scientific ties and expanding cooperation. At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the UNN and the University of Oviedo.
The Spanish guests also visited a number of laboratories at the UNN Physics and Technology Research Institute (PTRI) and the Department of Solid State Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry. Professor Garcia-Granda gave a lecture at the PTRI conference hall highlighting some crystallographic aspects of the current state of research of titanium phosphates as promising materials for various applications.
After the lecture, the PTRI director Vladimir Chuvildeyev told the guests about the research conducted at the institute and about the important work aimed at attracting young people to research activities, in particular, in physics. Of special interest was the program implemented by the University of Lobachevsky within its Science Park to stimulate interest in science among school students. In turn, the Spanish colleagues shared their own experience in this area of scientific and educational activities.
