Oleg Kolobov, Distinguished Professor of Lobachevsky University, was awarded the medal "For Services to Society" of the Russian Federation Civic Chamber. The award was presented to him by Vitaly Chumakov, Head of the Secretariat of the Civic Chamber Council, a graduate of UNN, at a meeting of the Academic Council of the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History (IIRWH).

According to the statute of the award, the medal is awarded to citizens who have rendered universally recognised outstanding service to Russian civil society.

The session of the IIRWH Academic Council on the occasion of Oleg Kolobov's 75th birthday was opened by Oleg Trofimov, Acting Rector of the Lobachevsky University. He noted Professor Kolobov's significant contribution to the development of the university, his many years of fruitful scholarly work and education process management.

Sergei Malov, Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Nizhny Novgorod, reminded that the first professional diplomats appeared in the previously "closed" region and the Foreign Ministry's office was established in the city also in connection with the name of Oleg Kolobov.

Participants of the open meeting of the IIRWH Academic Council emphasized that Oleg Kolobov influenced the opening and establishment of new university entities - and not only those that he headed. Zarethan Saralieva, Professor of the UNN Department of General Sociology and Social Work, noted that she appreciated his contribution to the emergence of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Representatives of the Ivanovo State University admitted that their International Relations Department was largely the result of refining the already existing experience of Nizhny Novgorod.

On behalf of Oleg Kolobov's students, Mikhail Rykhtik, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and IIRWH Director, and Roman Golubin, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, expressed their gratitude to their teacher and mentor, who had a great influence on their professional development.

Oleg Kolobov is Doctor of Sciences (History), Professor, Honorary Scientist of the Russian Federation (1998), Honorary Worker of Lobachevsky University (2006), Distinguished Professor of Lobachevsky University (2000), Honorary Worker of Higher Education (2001), Fulbright Scholar (1990). From 1987 to 2002, he was Dean of the Faculty of History (during 1995-1996, Dean of the Faculty of History, Social Sciences and International Relations). From 2002 to 2012, he was Dean of the Faculty of International Relations. He is the founder and leader of the school of American studies and comparative analysis of the development of regional policies by the great powers in the new and modern times.
