Ecoday festival at Lobachevsky University
The Ecoday environmental festival was held at Lobachevsky University on 21 May 2022.
The event was organised by the UNN Student Council. Ecoday is an annual festival focused on ecology, ethical consumption and conscious lifestyle.
"We have been staging the festival for five years, and every year we gather more and more students. We know about the current environmental problems, and our festival reminds everyone that we can make the world around us a little better. We have to take care of the environment in the city and on our campus," says Arina Vasina, President of the UNN Student Council.
On this day, students renewed the emblems of their faculties and institutes on the main university alley. At master classes, they decorated shopper bags and made candles out of wax.
Representatives of the Green Tower student organisation talked about simple eco habits to help minimise harm to nature and shared their experience of separate waste collection and recycling.
Students from the UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine gave a lecture on sustainable development. They explained in detail the environmental crises that humanity has experienced over its history and is experiencing now, and what everyone can do to live in harmony with nature without harming it.
Throughout the festival, a collection point for waste paper, batteries, and plastic was also open on the campus.
"This is my first time at Ecoday. I really enjoyed the event, it’s a wonderful experience. I especially liked the workshops on making candles and painting shopper bags. It's really important now: we should not use plastic bags, but go shopping with shopper bags. This is how we save the planet," shared her impressions Anastasia Varenkova, a student of the UNN Institute of Economics and Entrepreneurship.
