Film lecture for UNN international students on “The Fate of a Man”
On 31 October, the MIR Multifunctional Space at Lobachevsky University hosted a screening of the Soviet film “The Fate of a Man” directed by Sergei Bondarchuk. The film was shown as part of the film & lecture series that started in October 2024.
On the initiative of the UNN Department for International Student Affairs, a cycle of movie screenings is held every Thursday to mark the upcoming 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The aim of the film & lecture series is to bring together international and Russian students. As part of the film screenings, the International Club of Students shows documentary and feature films that recreate the dramatic events of the war and portray the courage and heroism of the Soviet people.
“It's important that we don't forget history and remember what our families, our grandparents went through. After all, only by remembering it, we will be able to prevent the history repeating itself”, said Elena Chumankina, UNN Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Educational Work.
The film & lecture series offers participants a chance to explore the history of the Great Patriotic War through cinema; to learn about the stories of heroes and their exploits; to learn about the tragic events of the war and its aftermath; to reflect on the importance of memory and the nation's unity. After the screening, viewers discuss the events, heroes and historical context of the films that were presented. The International Club of Students invites everyone who cares to know and remember history to the film lectures that take place in the MIR Multifunctional Space every Thursday.
“We believe it is important to honour the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and thus prepare for the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War”, shared Ahmed Rashed Mohamed Elfiki, President of the International Club of Students.
