On August 5, the first graduates of the English-language dentistry programme of the UNN Institute of Clinical Medicine received their diplomas. More than 60 young people from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Yemen and Yemen were awarded their documents of higher medical education in a festive ceremony.

Oleg Trofimov, Rector of Lobachevsky University,  greeted the graduates. He thanked the teaching staff of the UNN Institute of Clinical Medicine and noted that this is a landmark event for the university.

Oleg Trofimov and Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Networking, presented diplomas to the graduates. The Vice-Rector wished the young professionals much success.

"Today is a very important day for all of us. It all started five years ago, when we recruited the first medical students in our dentistry programme. It's amazing how fast these years have flown by. I hope that these years have been rich and unforgettable for you. I wish you to never stop learning. Keep improving your knowledge! It is especially important for doctors. I wish you good luck! The doors of Lobachevsky University are always open for you!" - noted Alexander Bedny.

During the ceremony, the graduates took the medical oath. Natalia Grigorieva, Director of the UNN Institute of Clinical Medicine, addressed them with her words of farewell.

"For five years, the students have been mastering their profession under the guidance of our teachers from the Institute of Clinical Medicine who are experienced dentists. All conditions have been created for the training of our students at Lobachevsky University. The graduates received a fundamental theoretical training and practical skills. The University Clinic has organised student apprenticeship, signed agreements with the city’s medical institutions, where the students got their practical training. We would like to express our special gratitude to the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod region for their support and participation in the educational process," said Natalia Grigorieva.

Among foreign graduates there are also those who wish to link their future with Russia and Nizhny Novgorod. One of them is Sheref Amr Mahmoud Hussein from Egypt.

"I am very happy to get my diploma today. We are grateful to Lobachevsky University and all the teachers. During my studies I got a lot of information, we had a lot of practice. There was serious support during all five years, we will never forget it. Maybe if I get accreditation next year, I will try to find a job here in Nizhny Novgorod. I like this city very much. The people here are very kind and the city is very beautiful," said Sheref Amr Mahmoud Hussein.

For five years, the students studied not only medicine, but also Russian culture and learnt about Russian traditions. At the ceremony, two graduates played a musical piece using Khokhloma wooden spoons together with professional musicians.

The Institute of Clinical Medicine is one of the youngest structural units of Lobachevsky University. The Clinical Medicine field of study emerged at UNN in 2019 with specialisations in General Medicine and Dentistry.  A year later, the Department of Clinical Medicine was set up within the UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine, and in 2022, the Institute of Clinical Medicine was established. In June 2024, diplomas were awarded to the first dentistry graduates who completed the Russian-language programme.
