Foreign trainees of the preparatory department complete their studies at UNN
A certificate awarding ceremony for the students of the preparatory department of Lobachevsky University took place on 23 July 2024.
After completing a 9-month programme, the students took exams, and those who successfully passed all the tests will be able to continue their studies at UNN and other Russian universities.
"The most important task is to teach students to speak Russian, because most of them are planning to study in Russian. We are also responsible for basic training in the subjects required as entrance exams," said Ekaterina Smirnova, Head of the UNN Department for International Student Affairs.
Lobachevsky University supports the desire of students from other countries to receive education in Russia, and the flow of those wishing to become students of the preparatory department keeps on growing.
"This academic year we had more than a hundred trainees from 36 countries: Serbia, Turkey, Germany, as well as Latin America and Africa and other places. As a rule, about half of them successfully pass exams and receive certificates. Almost all those who studied at the preparatory department enrol in the first year at our university. They like it here," said Nailya Bakhtiyarova, Head of the UNN Centre for Educational Programmes for International Students.
Prospective students intend to enrol in various fields of study. Some of them have already received education in their home country and have decided to continue their studies in Russia. One such motivated student is Mustafa Khairaldeen Sulaiman from Iraq:
"I have passed the entrance exams and will be studying for a Master's degree in Biophysics in the coming academic year. In my home country, I graduated from university and got a Bachelor's degree in physics".
The young man added that he was learning Russian on his own in his country through videos and then decided to come to Russia and continue his studies here.
The event unfolded in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The trainees and teachers thanked each other for their challenging but productive and interesting work. After the awarding of certificates, one of the awardees sang a song in Spanish, which he dedicated to his new friends and colleagues.
