During the academic year 2017-2018, two students of the UNN Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) will take a one-year internship in Germany under the program of the European Volunteer Service "Voluntary Social Year". Egor Shakhin who majors in Social Work and Ekaterina Gerasimova majoring in Sociology will get an opportunity to get acquainted with the international experience of social work with children, adolescents, elderly people, and persons with disabilities. In addition to their main work, students will participate in numerous field workshops and will have enough free time to visit some famous landmarks in Europe. Thanks to the cooperation of the FSS with the Society of Russian-German Encounters Essen-Nizhni Novgorod and the University of Duisburg-Essen, our students enjoy a number of advantages in comparison with other participants. They do not have to apply for participation in the program and funding – our German partners kindly take care of these formalities. The students also have free access to the library resources of the University of Duisburg-Essen and the opportunities of consulting with leading European specialists in the field of social work, which makes it possible for them to keep up with their peers at Lobachevsky University and return in a year to their academic group.

Since 2011, 10 UNN students have taken part in the program of the European Volunteer Service "Voluntary Social Year". The program that exists since the 1970s has become a social movement aimed at involving young people in volunteer activity, creating a single cultural space, and integrating international efforts on the basis of the values ??of mutual understanding, assistance and support.
