Home - News RSS feed - Graduation event 2026: 5,600 graduates complete their studies at UNN

Approximately 5,600 graduates finished their education at Lobachevsky University in 2026. Among them are bachelor’s degree holders, specialists, master’s students, as well as those enrolled in postgraduate, residency, and secondary vocational programmes. Over 400 of the best Russian and international students from all faculties, institutes, and branches of UNN, along with representatives of the university administration, faculty members, and guests of honour  took part in the university-wide graduation party, which was held on July 9.

Olga Petrova, a 1998 graduate of Lobachevsky University, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, addressed the graduates of 2026 in a video message:

"The University taught me not to fear challenging tasks and to always create, innovate, and turn the impossible into reality. I want to encourage all of you to keep dreaming and never forget your university, your teachers, who have shared with you not just knowledge but also their hearts and souls. Always remain graduates of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod — graduates with a capital 'G.' May everything work out for you."

Many honoured guests came to congratulate the graduates, to address them with words of encouragement and to wish them success in their future careers.

Tatiana Lobova, Advisor to the Rector of UNN, General Director of the Foundation for the Development of the Innovative Scientific and Technological Centre "Quantum Valley", spoke about the importance of graduates for the university:

"Graduates are the greatest asset of any university. It is for their sake that the higher education system exists. Today they have successfully completed their studies and are starting their professional career. This is an important event not only for the university, but also for society as a whole. I sincerely hope that all the graduates will maintain their connection with their alma mater, build a strong alumni network, and always look back on their university years with pride."

Oleg Trofimov, Rector of Lobachevsky University, expressed confidence that the new graduates of the university will contribute to the development of the country, tackle global challenges, and achieve ambitious goals.

"You have made an important step by completing your studies at Nizhny Novgorod State University, and you have laid the groundwork for your future growth. Receiving higher professional education at one of Russia’s leading universities equips you to move forward with confidence, constantly developing and improving. I wish you every success on this journey!" he said, addressing the graduates.

Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Affairs, noted in his welcoming address:

"International students have long been a part of university life and our large student family. For more than 20 years, young people from all over the world have been receiving higher education at our university.  We currently have students from nearly a hundred countries in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and neighbouring regions. Our university enjoys international recognition. We are known and chosen by students from all over the world, which speaks to the quality of our education and our reputation. Moreover, the presence of international students creates numerous opportunities for all learners: it fosters a true multicultural environment where one can practice different languages without leaving the campus. We cherish this and strive for Lobachevsky University to attract more and more students from different countries."

The festive evening programme featured awards for the best graduates in several categories: "For achievements in research activities", "For excellent academic performance", "For achievements in the development of student government", "For creative achievements", "For sporting achievements". Separately, accomplishments of distinguished students were noted by Alfa-Bank JSC representatives, and there was a raffle of prizes provided by the partner, Sweet Life+ LLC. Letters of gratitude and gifts were presented to all the honoured students.
