Graduation of law students in dual degree network programme took place in Tashkent
Graduates of the first cohort from the dual-degree network programme in law received their diplomas. The ceremony was held at the Palace of Peoples' Friendship in Tashkent. On this day, over 2,000 students from Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL) were awarded diplomas, with the dual-degree programme graduates being the highlight of the event.
The event was attended by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akbar Tashkulov, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Islamov and other dignitaries, as well as the Acting Rector of TSUL Islambek Rustambekov. They congratulated the graduates on entering a new stage of life and wished them great success in their future academic and work activities.
The ceremony’s guest of honor was Andrey Leonov, Deputy Dean of the UNN Faculty of Law, Director of the network programme on the part of Lobachevsky University. He presented a congratulatory letter from UNN Rector Oleg Trofimov to the first graduates of the network programme and TSUL administration. In his speech, he emphasised the significance of collaboration between our universities, this graduation being its direct result.
"We have trained professionals who are well versed in Russian and Uzbek legislation, as well as in international law. This is exactly what we were aiming for. I observed the reactions of other graduates in the hall when our students received two diplomas, while they themselves were awarded diplomas from just one university. And these reactions are quite understandable: thanks to holding diplomas from leading universities in both countries, graduates of the network programme gain unbeatable competitive advantages in the job markets of both countries. Over the course of three years, the students managed to overcome numerous challenges: they adapted to life in a foreign country, adjusted to an unfamiliar academic environment, studied law in a non-native language, and worked in their spare time to finance their education. They are a source of pride for our universities, our countries, and, of course, their families. Three graduates have already been accepted into the Master's program at the UNN Faculty of Law under the Russian Government quota, which is a particular point of pride for us. We wish them all the best on their future paths and trust that our network programme will serve as a pivotal starting point in their lives," shared Programme Director Andrey Leonov.
During the visit to Tashkent, there were also working meetings with representatives of TSUL, as well as career guidance events as part of the 2025 admission campaign.
The network programme has been running since 2022 at two partner universities — UNN (Russia) and TSUL (Uzbekistan). Upon completion of their studies, students are awarded two Bachelor's degrees in Jurisprudence with a specialization in International Law.
Over a three-year period, students receive education at the Law Faculty of Lobachevsky University and the International Law Faculty of Tashkent State University of Law. They acquire a comprehensive set of knowledge and skills in general jurisprudence, including expertise in Russian and Uzbek law. This is followed by specialisation in public international law. Upon completion of their studies, students undergo state certification before a joint Russian-Uzbek commission, which involves passing a state exam and defending their graduation thesis. Currently, more than 70 students are enrolled in the programme.
