International camp for philology students opens at UNN
On July 22, Lobachevsky University launched an international youth camp for philology students from universities in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and other countries. The event is being held on the initiative and with the financial support of the Russian World Foundation, while UNN acts as the organiser and the host party. The project aims to promote the professional training of future teachers of Russian language and literature abroad, and to provide for their immersion in the language environment.
For two weeks, students will be improving their knowledge of the Russian language, exploring the history and culture of Russia, and building professional relations with leading lecturers of the UNN Institute of Philology and Journalism (IPJ).
“We have tried to create a balanced programme for the international camp. The students will not have classes in the classical sense; there will be field sessions, discussions, and workshops on teaching Russian as a foreign language. Through live communication, we will try to provide the participants of the youth delegation with information about Russian literature, culture, our region, and our city. Leading teachers from the UNN Institute of Philology and Journalism will share new knowledge that they have acquired through practice. I would say that this is a unique programme. For example, a creative meeting-discussion "Pushkin and Tsoi" will be one of the programme events," said Irina Abramova, IPJ Deputy Director and Head of the Serbian Centre.
The participants will also have a series of excursions and master classes helping them to learn about the culture and life of Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region.
The international camp continues the fruitful cooperation with universities in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the UNN Serbian Centre has been developing since 2015.
"This year, the UNN Serbian Centre is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and the International Camp with the participation of Serbian students from our partner universities is, in a sense, a gift for this anniversary. The fact that we are currently hosting a large group of students who are studying the Russian language in their homeland is an important intermediate result in the development of further cooperation. Our plans include strengthening interaction with universities in Serbia, the Republic of Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and other friendly countries to promote the Russian language and strengthen technological sovereignty. Currently, Lobachevsky University ranks first among Russian universities in terms of the number of Serbian students and agreements signed with Serbian partners. We intend to further develop these relations, including in close collaboration with the regional government, the Russian World Foundation, the Rosatom State Corporation and other interested partners," said Konstantin Kemaev, Head of the UNN International Cooperation Department.
