International Conference "Approaches of the European Union and Russia to Transboundary Security Threats"
On May 25, Lobachevsky University hosted the international conference "Approaches of the European Union and Russia to Transboundary Security Threats". The conference was organized by the UNN Faculty of Law within the framework of the Jean Monnet Project "Approaches of the European Union to Transnational Security: Focus on Learning and the Use of Experience" (EUSECU-POLE) and the Jean Monnet Module "The European Union as a Global Actor in the field of human rights” (EUGLOBE) supported by the European Commission. Conference participants discussed various approaches to key security issues of a transboundary nature that Russia and the European Union are facing today. Such challenges include terrorism, human trafficking, "illegal" migration, radicalization, cybercrime, etc. Particular attention was given to the opportunities for sharing experience and best practices to counter modern cross-border security challenges. The round table discussion was focused on teaching European and international law in universities. Main problems in this area were formulated, the prospects for studying and developing European law in Russia were analyzed in relation with other branches of law and other social sciences. The mechanisms and ways for creating and strengthening interdisciplinary interaction and research networks for the effective development of European studies in Russia were also discussed.
