On 22 April, international students of Lobachevsky University took part in a very important and remarkable event. 
At the invitation of the Ministry of International and Interregional Relations of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, more than 40 international students of Lobachevsky University attended the meeting celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The participants of the event were welcomed by Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Petr Bannikov, Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region Olga Guseva and the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nizhny Novgorod Sergey Malov.

During the meeting, international students of Nizhny Novgorod universities had a unique opportunity to learn historical facts about the life of Nizhny Novgorod (which at that time was known as Gorky) during the Great Patriotic War. They were introduced to this part of the city’s history by Boris Pudalov, Head of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Archives Committee, who gave a  lecture on this period.

As part of the event, international students joined the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument “Gorky residents - valiant home front workers”. They also had a walking tour around the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin.

According to Dmitry Medvedev, Head of the UNN International Students Support Office, it was a much needed and absolutely essential meeting that allowed international students from different countries to learn about the contribution of Nizhny Novgorod to the great Victory of the Soviet people over Nazism. He also thanked the organisers for preparing such an interesting and important event.
