A thematic tour under the title "Artificial Brain: How to Make Glass Think" for high school students was held at Lobachevsky University on 25 November.

Is it possible to create an artificial brain using modern semiconductor technology? Is it possible to produce microchips that would work like a human brain? What methods could be then used to study such microchips and how could their physical and electrical properties be evaluated? What is neuromorphic technology?

In search of answers to these questions, school students visited laboratories at the UNN Faculty of Physics, the  Physics and Technology Research Institute and the Research and Education Centre "Physics of Solid State Nanostructures". The tour was led by Maria Koryazhkina, Head of the Laboratory of Intelligent Neuromorphic Systems, and Maria Shenina, a researcher in this laboratory. The tour made part of the "My Profession is a Scientist" project of the Centre for the Development of Scientific and Educational Initiatives, which is supported by the Presidential Grants Fund. The project will include career guidance meetings of school students with scientists working in different fields of science and tours of research laboratories in eight federal districts of Russia in 2021-2022.
