Lobachevsky/RU Russian Language Olympiad concludes at UNN
The annual International Olympiad in Russian as a foreign language "Lobachevsky/RU" closed at Lobachevsky University on March 31. More than 630 foreign participants studying at educational institutions abroad and at Russian universities took part in the competition. They represented 71 countries: Algeria, Angola, Belgium, Brazil, Vietnam, Greece, Italy, China, Colombia, Cyprus, Lebanon, Madagascar, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Thailand, France and other states.
The closing ceremony of the Olympiad was attended by Elena Zagaynova, Rector of Lobachevsky University, Olga Petrova, Minister of Education, Science and Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Olga Guseva, Director of the Department of International Relations of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, and Alexander Bedny, UNN Vice-Rector for International Affairs. They congratulated the winners and prize-holders on their well-deserved success and noted the growing popularity of the Olympiad abroad. This is evidenced by the increase in the total number of participants and a wider geographical coverage.
In 2021-2022, the Lobachevsky/RU Olympiad was included in the list of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, which gives the winners and runners-up of the Olympiad the opportunity to study for a Master's degree in Economics or Humanities at Lobachevsky University. School graduates will also benefit from admission privileges.
Winners and prize-holders of the Olympiad come from Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cameroon, China, Croatia, Egypt, El Salvador, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mozambique, Moldova, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The full list of the winners and runners-up in the different categories will be available on the Olympiad website.
The annual Lobachevsky/RU Olympiad is an important component of Lobachevsky University's activities to support and attract talented students, strengthen the position and promote the Russian language and culture in foreign countries, popularize and increase interest in the study of the Russian language, increase recognition of the Nizhny Novgorod region as one of Russia’s leading centres of science and education.
